With the increasing commercialization of the public sphere, research and activities that critically examine this space are needed. These issues will be the foci of a seminar and a "walkshop" led by Monica Sand and Ricardo Atienza, artists and researchers at the Swedish Centre for Architecture and Design, Stockholm. Welcome to sign up for:

The seminar and walkshop link up to the research project Walking in the footsteps of Rubicon. In the walkshop, places chosen by the dance group Rubicon during the 1980s are activated by mapping and exploring the contemporary expanded commercial urban situation and its impact on artistic practice. Sand and Atienza, introduce the concept of resonance as an experimental site-specific method and a theoretical concept, as developed through their practice as artists and researchers. Resonance (re-sonare, re-sounding) is here not only understood in sonic terms, but as a respons to the public space; an art of resonating with/in/through the city. This on-going communication between bodies and space - rhythm and associations, feet and surface, past and present, fiction and facts, voice and dimensions, time and space, matter and language asf - is developed through walkshops and interventions in common urban situations. Resonance occurs in time as the immaterial, continous and elusive expressions of the life, the movement and the rhythm of social content and meaning.

Monica Sand artist, researcher and research coordinator and Ricardo Atienza, architect, artist and researcher, Swedish Centre for Architecture and Design, are running the research project: In Situ-Action: Resonance, Improvisation and Variations of Public Space (founded by the Swedish Research Council 2011-2014). http://playingthespace.wordpress.com/
