Noli Timere: Reflections on the Life and Work of Seamus Heaney

Currently a Visiting Scholar at Gothenburg University, Professor Michael Parker will perform this multimedia presentation about the Nobel Prize-winning Irish poet. A tutor at Oxford University's Department of Continuing Education and Visiting Professor at Oxford Brookes University, his publications include Seamus Heaney: The Making of the Poeti (1993), Postcolonial Literatures (1995), Contemporary Irish Fiction (2000), Northern Irish Literature 1956-2006 (2007), William Trevor: Revaluations (2013), and, most recently, a joint translation with Aleksandra Parker of Andrzej Franaszek¿s Milosz: A Biography (2017).

The programme which lasts just over an hour, features music, readings of and commentaries on Heaney's poetry, as well as specially filmed interviews with Roy Foster and Bernard O'Donoghue. It also incorporates extracts from Charlie McCarthy's documentary, Out of the Marvellous, produced by IceBox Films for RTE on the occasion of the poet's 70th birthday.

First performed in September 2013 for the Irish Literary Society in London, Noli Timere was originally devised by Michael with important contributions from Professor Stephen Regan, of the Department of English Studies, Durham University with Dr Esther Armstrong, University of the Arts, London. Subsequently it was performed to a sell-out audience at the National Library of Ireland in Dublin, and later at the Oxford Literary Festival and universities in Paris and Berkeley,California.
